Marking Milestones: Jameson’s Newborn Pictures
My mom was always adamant that the children in the family got baby photos taken. She was keen on marking milestones that way. She and I talked a lot about the things we planned to do to mark Jameson’s growth, who was born just one month and two days prior to her death. So, one month after she was gone, Hilary and I had Jameson’s new baby photos taken by Casie.
Dear Mom,
Today we had Jameson’s newborn photos taken. I know this is something you would have done for him, as you did for all of the babies our family has had. The photoshoot was really special to Hilary and I. I feel like this is one of the first things I have done to try and fill in where you couldn’t be there. We paid attention to some small details, like wearing keepsake jewelry you gave to us, and having his blanket with the inscription “I love you to the moon and back” like you used to say to us. I feel a deep sense of duty in making sure that Jameson grows up with a tribe of people who care deeply about him. One of the last conversations I had with you was about how important he is to us both, our plans in surrounding him with a loving family. Now you’re gone, it’s me and Hilary to look after him and give him a sense of tribe–I think these pictures capture that. I also see the bond Hilary and Jameson share in these pictures, by the way he looks at her. I think you would like the photos.
Love,
Amelia
